Gauntlet of Riftsever

๐Ÿ”ฎ Wondrous Item (gauntlet) Very Rare
requires attunement by a spellcaster
Charges: 7 (regains at dawn)

A gauntlet crafted from blackened steel, its surface threaded with starry runes that shimmer like a night sky. The palm bears a multifaceted opal that swirls with shifting colors, and faint crackles of cold, planar energy trail along the metal with each movement. When worn, the sigils glow brighter and a whispering wind seems to pass just beyond the edge of reality.

Planar Gate Action. Expend 1 charge to open a 10-foot-diameter portal from your space to a plane you name within 60 feet. The gateway remains open for 1 minute, and any number of creatures can pass through it in either direction. The exit location on the destination plane is determined by the DM, but you may name a known landmark to anchor the exit near that site. The gate vanishes after the minute expires.
Planar Shift Echo 2 charges. As an action, you may expend 2 charges to cast Plane Shift on yourself and up to 8 willing creatures within 20 feet, transporting them to a plane you name. The destination must be a plane you know about, and you arrive at a location on that plane you choose, as determined by the DM. No spell slots or material components are required; the exit location must be a stable landing on the destination plane. The gauntlet cannot be used for Planar Shift again until dawn when its charges are restored.
Riftstorm 3 charges. As an action, expend 3 charges to unleash a 20-foot-radius emanation of planar energy centered on you. Each creature in the area must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or take 5d6 force damage and be pushed 15 feet away from the center. On a successful save, the creature takes half damage and is not pushed. The rift energy lingers for 1 round and may create ephemeral portals at the edges that the DM can adjudicate for potential travel to the named plane.

Lore

Legends speak of a forge hidden between the planes, where mortal smiths barter with living rifts. The Gauntlet of Riftsever was wrought to tempt fate itself: to tear the veil between worlds long enough to slip a traveler to any destination. It is said to have first appeared to a scholar-priest who used it to rescue a city from invasion, only to learn that opening a rift invites consequences more lasting than a single battle.

History

The gauntlet vanished during the War of Echoes, reappearing at intervals in the hands of those who sought to bend fate to their will. Each bearer leaves behind faint traces of otherworldly dust and a path of displaced travelers who claim they were drawn toward a distant horizonโ€”an horizon that is almost certainly another plane.
