The Torch of Abyssal Ember is a slender, seawater-worn torch. Its shaft appears carved from dark coral and brass, and the head houses a blue-white ember that glows with cold radiance. The wrapping of the handle is sea-green leather, bound with kelp threads. The flame never gutters, even when fully submerged, and the glow leaves behind a pale trail in the water like a waking fish.

Underwater Ember The flame of the torch burns underwater with the same certainty as in air. It requires no air, is not extinguished by water, and continues to shed light. While lit, it emits bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional 20 feet. In submerged environments the light penetrates water as if it were air, revealing what would otherwise be hidden.

Predator's Beacon As an action, you may expend 1 charge to intensify the beacon for 1 minute. For the duration, every hostile creature within 60 feet that can see the flame must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be drawn toward the light and must use its movement on its next turn to approach the flame. If a drawn creature ends its movement within 5 feet of the torch, it can attack as normal but remains compelled to close with the flame whenever possible. The effect ends early if the torch is extinguished, you become incapacitated, or the duration ends.

Lore

Legends claim this torch was forged by the reef-dwelling arcanists who hunted the depths in search of light that would outshine the sunken wrecks they guarded. They claimed the ember was a gift from a sea spirit that feeds on ships and secrets, granting underwater flame that burns beyond air—yet the flame draws predators as surely as it reveals truth.

History

Ported from the siege of the Sunken Choir, the torch has changed hands many times: snatched from shipwrecks by treasure-seekers, recovered by divers, and hidden among the currents until a new owner would dare to wield it under the sea's watchful eyes.
