Ring of Echoing Heartbeats
A slender platinum ring set with a wisping obsidian heart-shaped cabochon. The band is engraved with flowing lines that mimic beating hearts, and a cool blue glow hums faintly from the stone whenever the ring’s power is active. When worn, the ring pulses softly to the tempo of nearby life, as if the wearer can hear the rhythm of every heartbeat pressed behind walls.
Lore
The Ring of Echoing Heartbeats was forged by the Silent Cartographers, a guild of spies who mapped cities by listening to the rhythm of life within their walls. It was said to have been given to the guild’s most trusted scout, Mara Vell, whose uncanny ability to sense dangers through the heartbeat of a city saved her companions on many a night raid. The ring passed between agents and thieves alike, disappearing after Mara’s disappearance in the Whispering Halls.
History
Legend says the ring was lost during a failed infiltration of a king’s keep, resurfaced decades later in a thieves’ guild cache beneath the city. It later appeared in the hands of a ranger who used it to track patrols through siege lines, and finally found its way to a collector who kept it hidden behind a glass statue in a private gallery.
