Lore & Description
Appearance
A towering Large elemental, its form is a shifting blend of molten lava and cooled volcanic rock armor. The core glows orange through seams in a blackened carapace of basalt and obsidian-like plates. The armor clacks and chimes as it shifts, and steam and sulfurous scent waft from between joints. The molten heart within remains a living furnace, radiating heat that scorches nearby air. Attacks crack rock and send shards skittering. The armor's cold, stone exterior makes it difficult to pierce with ordinary strikes, while any heat it takes in is offset by the furnace beneath a fortress of rock.
Behavior & Origins
The Rockbound Molten Elemental is born where magma churns beneath a crust of obsidian and stone. The outer mantle forms a protective crust that slowly cools molten flesh within, turning former lava into a hardened shell. They roam volcanic ranges and basalt barrens, guarding their fiery core and absorbing heat to reinforce their rock shell. They defend their lair with patient, ponderous ferocity, preferring to smash foes with their rock-encrusted limbs and melt armor with a line of searing breath. Adventurers who seek to strike the molten core must first crack through its cooling armor, a process that can take patience and cunning.
