Actions

Multiattack. The Eater makes three Tentacle attacks and one Bite attack.
Tentacle. Melee weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 19 (3d8+6) slashing damage. If the target is Medium or smaller, it is grappled (escape DC 18).
Bite. Melee weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d8+6) piercing damage. If the target is swallowed, it is restrained (escape DC 18).
Wail of the Planes (Recharge 5-6). The god-eater emits a psychic wail in a 60-foot cone. Each creature in that area must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or take 21 (6d6) psychic damage and be frightened until the end of its next turn. On a successful save, the creature takes half damage and is not frightened.

Bonus Actions

Phase Step. The God-Eater shifts into the Ethereal Plane as a bonus action. It remains there until the start of its next turn and reappears up to 60 feet away on its following turn.

Legendary Actions

The God-Eater can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The creature regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Tentacle Lash. The God-Eater makes one tentacle attack.
Bite Devour. The God-Eater makes one bite attack.
Phase Step (Costs 2 Actions). The God-Eater uses its Plane Drift to phase through the Ethereal Plane and reappear elsewhere within 60 feet.

Lair

Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the creature can take a lair action to cause one of the following effects; it can't use the same effect two rounds in a row:

  • Whispers of Absence. At initiative count 20, the lair fills with distant whispers. Each creature within 60 feet that can hear the whispers must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the start of its next turn.
  • Portal Seed. A 15-foot portal opens on a random surface within 60 feet. Any creature that ends its turn within 10 feet of the portal must succeed on a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw or be teleported 1d10 feet to an unoccupied space near the portal.
  • Gravity Warp. The area within 40 feet of the Eater tilts and shifts. Each creature on a space within 40 feet must succeed on a DC 17 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Regional Effects

The region containing the creature's lair is warped by its magic, creating the following effects:

  • The region around the lair experiences planar turbulence; teleportation misfires occur more frequently in the area.
  • Whispers and echoes of vanished deities drift through the air, unsettling travelers and planar travelers alike.
  • Planar energies tint the skies with shifting constellations that resemble swallowed gods.

If the creature dies, these effects fade over the course of 1d10 days.

Lore & Description

Appearance

A drifting, amorphous mass of star-stuff and obsidian void forms a towering, sprawling silhouette. Its body chimerically blends tendril-like limbs with a maw that seems to be lined with galaxies. Eye-like hollows burn with pale suns, drifting through the shifting mass. The Eater seems to flicker between frames of reality, as if it occupies more than one place at once, and it inhales the very god-essences of its surroundings, leaving behind a silence that feels like the absence of a plan. When it speaks, its voice sounds like a chorus of distant bells echoing through the planes, promising oblivion to the devout and the proud alike.

Behavior & Origins

Long before mortals learned to craft daggers and scrolls, there existed a hunger that fed on divinity itself. The Eater of Gods is not a god, nor a demigod, but a ravenous force born from the entropy that gnaws at the borders between planes. It drifts through the Veil, siphoning divine power from temples, shrines, and the very hearts of deities. Those who glimpse it tell of a cold awareness that tastes like a thousand suns dimmed to embers, and a void where every myth’s ending is swallowed. It seeks sustenance in apotheoses—those rare moments when a god reveals itself in the world—leaving only a quiet, hollow ache in the wake of its passage.
