Lore & Description
Appearance
A massive, bulbous arachnid with a carapace of chitinous plates tinted in ash-gray and bone-white. Its abdomen is armored behind a shingle-like shield made from scavenged bones that interlock like a tiled carapace. Legs sprawl in ragged, jointed segments, each ending in a dark claw. The creature dwells in cavernous tunnels, often backing into mountain crevices to seal its armored rear from all flanks, like a subterranean hermit crab seeking safety inside a rock shelter.
Behavior & Origins
The Bonebound Hermit Spider is a nocturnal ambusher of high mountain caves. It scavenges animal remains, incorporating bones into a fearsome, shield-like abdomen. When threatened, it retreats backward into crevices, turning its vulnerable underside into a sealed chamber of bone and sinew. Its presence tells of long subterranean hunts and a cunning that blends defense with predation. Adventurers may encounter its bone-sheathing silhouette just beyond a tunnel bend, or hear the dull scraping of bone against stone as it repositions its armored hide for maximum protection.
