Ring of Umbra Dominion
The Ring of Umbra Dominion is a slender iron band about the size of a finger, inlaid with a band of smokey onyx that seems to drink light. Intricate sigils coil around the band, forming a pattern that shifts slightly when shadows gather. When worn, the ring hums with cool, pinprick-like energy, and the shadows around you seem to tighten and pool at your feet, as if listening.
Lore
Legends say the ring was forged at the edge of the Shadowfell by a forgotten order known as the Umbral Writ, who bound their own souls to the darkness to teach it obedience. Once worn by nobility and then by assassins, the ring grants the holder power over the very essence of shadows, but with a cost: prolonged use can turn the wearer into a conduit for the Dark.
History
The earliest known owner was a cloaked figure named Valis of Thorne, who used the ring to slip unseen through court intrigues. Later, it vanished after a failed attempt to bind a living shadow, reappearing centuries later on a pirate-king of a shadow-haunted isle. Each owner left behind rumors of whispered commands and a growing fear of the things that lurk where the light fails.
