Ring of the Aegis

๐Ÿ’ Ring (ring) Legendary
requires attunement by a creature of good alignment
Charges: 10 (regains at dawn)

This elegant ring is crafted from gleaming adamantine, set with a large, sapphire gem at its center that glows with a soft blue light. Intricate patterns resembling swirling wind and waves are engraved along its band, giving it an ethereal quality. The air around it shimmers subtly, hinting at its protective powers.

Forcefield Creation As a reaction, when you are hit by an attack, you can expend 3 charges to create a shimmering protective force field around yourself. This force field grants you an additional +4 to AC for that attack, potentially causing the attack to miss. This effect can be used a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.
Reflective Barrier When the force field is activated, any spells targeting you that require an attack roll automatically fail and the caster must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 18). On a failed save, they take 4d10 force damage, or half as much on a successful save.
Aura of Protection While wearing the ring, you and allies within 10 feet of you gain a +1 bonus to saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Lore

Forged by the archmage Elowen during the War of the Sundering, the Ring of the Aegis was said to be a gift from Bahamut, the Platinum Dragon, to those who fought to protect the innocent. Legends whisper that those who don the ring may channel celestial power into a forcefield that safeguards them from harm, standing as a bastion against the darkness.

History

The ring has had many bearers over the centuries, each a champion of light battling the encroaching shadows of evil. It was lost for decades before being recovered from the ruins of an ancient fortress, where it was said to have been used to protect the last defenders against an overwhelming demon horde. Many sought the ring, but only those of righteous heart can attune to its power.
