Girdle of the Tensing Guard

๐Ÿ”ฎ Wondrous Item (belt) Rare
requires attunement by a vigilant creature who trusts their instincts
Charges: 7 (regains at dawn)

A belt forged of midnight-black leather, thick and supple, with copper threading along the edges. The buckle is a stylized bronze eye set with a small smoky quartz that glints with inner fire. Runic inscriptions along the strap hum faintly when danger is near.

Tensing Guard This broad belt is made from deep black leather, reinforced with copper thread and a buckle that resembles an eye set with a smoky quartz. The eyes glow faintly when danger is near. The belt automatically tightens around your waist if danger approaches within 30 feet. It has 7 charges and recharges at dawn. Expending 1 charge activates a protective aura for 1 minute: you gain a +2 bonus to AC, you have advantage on Initiative checks, and you are not surprised while the aura lasts. The aura ends early if you drop to 0 hit points, if you become incapacitated, or if the danger moves beyond 30 feet.

Lore

In the era of the Vigilant Knights, the Girdle of the Tensing Guard was forged to keep watchers safe in forests and city gates alike. It was said to have been blessed by a sentry goddess whose gaze could pierce the veil of ambushes.

History

The belt was discovered in a ruined watchtower by a hunter named Kael, who used it to save a caravan from a marauding band. It later passed through several handsโ€”rangers, soldiers, and roguesโ€”each attuned to its eerie sense of danger and its insistence on preparedness.
