Lore & Description
Appearance
A squat, moss-green frog about the size of a halfling’s hand, crowned with a single lidless eye that gleams amber in the dim caverns. Its skin glistens with wet sheen, slick and warty, and its mouth is a circular, tooth-filled gape. The one eye watches motion with unsettling calm, and when it opens fully the cave seems to tilt for a heartbeat as its croak threads through the rock like a whispered fever. The croak, while mild, unsettles balance and disorients prey, giving the frog a moment to strike or vanish into shadowy pools.
Behavior & Origins
In the damp tunnel networks beneath the mountains, the One-Eyed Cave Frog makes its lair in still pools and on slick ledges. Its lone amber eye surveys vibrations in the water and air, and its croak—a soft, lingering note—sends a momentary vertigo through nearby creatures. The effect is enough to break concentration and stumble adventurers, letting the frog slip away into the echoing darkness. Though small, its bite can be piercing, and its habitat—dark, dripping caverns—protects it from larger predators while offering a nearby source of insects and small prey.
