Lore & Description
Appearance
A stout, chitinous beetle-like ant with a brown-green carapace tinged by a sickly mindium sheen. Its mandibles are stout and glint with a mineral blue, and it leaves a slimy trail of toxic secretions when it moves quickly. It clambers with surprising speed on rough terrain and can scale walls with ease, using its strong legs to propel itself up in a burst. Its bite is small but precise, and it can project a corrosive spit from a distance. When wounded to 5 HP or less, it turns tail and attempts to retreat, calling for aid from others of its kind.
Behavior & Origins
Mindium Antlings are tiny but stubborn beasts that dwell in underground tunnels and burrow networks enriched by mindium crystals. They breed quickly and fiercely defend their nests, often using numbers to overwhelm larger foes. Their poison spit is not lethal but can irritate and slow victims, while their instinct to retreat and summon reinforcements helps them protect their colony from predators. Despite their low challenge rating, their cooperative behavior and ability to call for aid can complicate encounters for adventurers who try to simply sweep them away.
