Lore & Description
Appearance
A fist-sized beetle with a gleaming, faceted shell of razor-sharp crystal. Its carapace looks as if it were carved from a shard of a frozen prism, catching light and refracting it into jagged gleams. The shell is brittle yet incredibly deadly in close quarters, capable of slicing through fabric and flesh with terrifying precision. The creature moves with surprising speed for its size, weaving between rocks as it hunts mineral dust and tiny morsels of magical energy. When threatened, it flicks its facets to glare with cold blue light, and a shower of crystal shards can puncture the air.
Behavior & Origins
Facetshard beetles dwell in crystal-strewn caverns of the Underdark, where mineral deposits hum with magical energy. Though tiny, their razor-like shells make them dangerous defenders of their lairs, and their chitinous bodies can vibrate to direct sound waves that disorient prey. They typically hunt in packs or solo, feeding on mineral dust and subtle magical energies. Traders sometimes use their shards as makeshift blades, though biting shards can be hazardous to the wielder as well.
