Lore & Description
Appearance
A rust-colored, beetle-like monstrosity with segmented, bone-like protrusions along its carapace. Its maw drips a rancid, bone-dissolving ichor, and a fine dust of bone fragments clings to its fangs. Instead of craving metal, this variant feeds on bone, whether from carrion, bone armor, or living creatures whose skeletons lie within reach. It skulks through gravewoods and ruined temples, leaving behind a powdery snow of bone ash and a pale sheen on exposed bone surfaces it has devoured.
Behavior & Origins
Born from a twisted fusion of minerals and bone-eating bacteria, the Bonerust Devourer inhabits places rich in bone matter โ graveyards, ruined cathedrals, bone-strewn dens. It lures victims with a chitinous creak, then strikes with relentless bites that liquefy bone as it feeds. This creature is solitary, patient, and nearly scentless to living prey, preferring to gnaw away at bone until nothing remains but a scattered heap of powder. In some ruins, clusters of bone dust mark its hunting grounds, and adventurers who disturb these piles sometimes find themselves haunted by a creeping ache in their own bones as the creature's lingering necrotic energy lingers in the air.
