Lore & Description
Appearance
A colossal boar of iron-gray hide, riveted with sheet-iron plates along its spine. Its eyes glow with a dull red heat, and two massive tusks, forged from enchanted iron, gleam like blades. When it charges, the earth trembles as if an anvil were striking below the ground. This beast stalks spellcasters with an almost sentient hunger, drawn to the crackle of magic and the glow of arcane energy. Its presence feels like a forge waking in the middle of the woods, and those who wield magic do well to beware its iron snout and hunger for spellwork.
Behavior & Origins
Once a forest-dwelling boar of legendary size, the Ironmaw came to be after a goblin blacksmith poured a fragment of a ruined arcane furnace into the boarโs lair. The forgeโs magic fused with the beast, granting it formidable iron tusks and a taste for magic users. It roams the woods near forges and ruins, drawn to spellcasters like an ember to flame. Hunters who track the Ironmaw report that the ground itself seems to grind with each thundering step, as if the forest is being hammered into submission. Legends say that those who survive a direct encounter with the Ironmaw might find their magical talents dulled for weeks, as though the beastโs iron-touched bite had ground their power to a dull spark.
