Lore & Description
Appearance
A parasite that replaces a creature's heart with a living, pulsating organ that grants extraordinary stamina at the cost of the host's autonomy. It resembles a vein-woven orb, about the size of a human heart, slick with a dark, coppery sheen, anchored by a flexible stalk that can interface with the host's chest. When undisturbed, it pulses with a soft glow and can extend translucent tendrils to steady the body. In combat, it erupts with two blood-slick attacks and can grip a foe's chest with its internal tendrils.
Behavior & Origins
Heartbound Parasites are drawn to life energy and the will to endure. They infiltrate a living host through a chest wound or torn rib, substituting the heart with their own pulsating organ. The parasite grants extraordinary stamina, letting the host push beyond normal limits, but it also dulls the host's autonomy as the parasite anchors itself to a relentless, inexorable pace. These creatures are patient ambush predators, preferring hosts who will not discard them lightly, for removing a Heartbound Parasite is a dangerous affair that can cost the host its life.
