Lore & Description

Appearance

A colossal owl, the size of a horse, with feathers the color of moldy ash. Its plumage seems to steam faintly with rot, and every flap of its wings carries a whisper of decay. Its eyes glow a sickly green, and the air around it smells of damp earth and old bones. Anything that touches its feathers risks being touched by the rot they carry, as if the bird has brushed against you in the night and left a creeping, necrotic stain.

Behavior & Origins

The Rotfeather Owl is a corrupted guardian of decaying forests and ruined shrines. It feeds on carrion and the life force of intruders, and its feathers carry a necrotic curse that taints anything they brush. Legends say its birth occurred when a holy owl carried a relic of decay and perished, its spirit becoming a hunter of rot. Adventurers who cross its path often find that the rot on their gear appears suddenly — as if the owl itself has brushed against them in the night.
